James Hyland - Secondary Deputy Headteacher

James Hyland

Secondary Deputy Headteacher

This is my fifth year as part of the GEMS CIA family. I am Deputy Headteacher of the secondary phase, with responsibility for teaching and learning. I am one of the HPL leads and work to ensure the philosophy of HPL is intertwined into the DNA of our school and others across the GEMS network. Another part of my role is trip coordinator and this has allowed me to create memorable experiences for our learners outside of the classroom. The next trips will be to Expo 2020.

I have a Bachelors of Arts (Hons) Degree in Physical Education from Leeds Metropolitan University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Liverpool John Moores University. I have over 13 years experience in education and my previous roles include Head of PE and Head of Year.

I have a passion for all sport, especially Rugby. I have played for 22 years and I am currently playing for the Abu Dhabi Harlequins. Before moving to Abu Dhabi, I received international caps for Great Britain Teachers Rugby League.
