Adrian Mcgurn

Director of Lower Key Stage Two

I joined GEMS Cambridge International Academy in 2020 as a Class Teacher and have thoroughly enjoyed growing alongside the school community. Over the years, I have held several leadership positions, including Head of Years 4 and 5 and Assistant Head Teacher overseeing Years 3 and 4. I now proudly serve as Director of Phase – Lower Key Stage 2, supporting students, staff, and families as the school continues to strive for excellence.

Originally from Ireland, I moved to Abu Dhabi in search of a new adventure and to begin my teaching career after previously working in finance in Dublin. I hold a BSc in Accounting from the University of Ulster, Belfast, and a PGCE in Primary Education from the University of Cumbria, England. I am passionate about creating an environment where every child can thrive both academically and personally.

Alongside my leadership responsibilities, I work closely with the BE A GEM initiative and oversee the House System at GEMS CIA. Through these programmes, I promote positive behaviour, teamwork, leadership, and a strong sense of belonging. I encourage every student to embody the school’s core values and truly BE A GEM.

More recently, I was appointed Head of Sustainability for Primary, a role that reflects my commitment to empowering students to become environmentally conscious global citizens. I am passionate about leading sustainability initiatives across the school and supporting GEMS CIA on its journey towards achieving Eco-Schools Green Flag status.

I am excited to continue working with the Lower Key Stage 2 community and look forward to supporting every child on their journey to success while helping to shape a more sustainable future for all.
